The Common Buckeye butterfly is widely found across much of the United States during the summer months. In autumn, large groups migrate south along the East Coast. Its distinctive eyespots on the wings serve as a defense mechanism, startling predatory birds and helping the butterfly escape danger.
The Common Buckeye stamp was released in three different formats: a traditional perforated sheet (11 perforation), a self-adhesive die-cut (11 perf equivalent), and a convenient coil version. This issue highlights both the beauty and biological importance of one of America’s most recognizable butterflies, making it an excellent addition for collectors and nature enthusiasts alike.
